Richard's Blog

1st of the few? 26th March 2009

I am starting this blog without knowing if anyone at all will read it.
Is being prospective Member of Parliament for Watford enough to make my life interesting? To family and friends-sure to a few political hacks in Watford (Con,Lab and Lib Dem-possibly; to anybody else? Don’t know and hope so

I have been candidate for Watford for 3 months. Impressions? It is amazing how much goes on in the town behind the scenes. I have walked along streets many times-not knowing that there were voluntary run hostels, charities and other organisations in buildings I never dreamt of. Some I knew, but many I didn’t. We are so good at volunteering in this country. Sometimes people need to shout louder. We are going to be supporting some of the ‘quieter’ ones.

Other impressions? Fear, of unemployment, of loss of income because of reduced interest rates, fear of being removed from the old peoples sheltered accomodation owned by the Housing Trust. A lot of worries around. There are no jobs for unskilled people.
I have learnt a lot in all my experiences in lifen business and community. Fear is tough. I knew it in previous recessions, it is hard to deal with. We politicians have to help.
So here endeth the 1st post on the blog. I used to think blogs were simply self ego massages for the blogger…..we will see!
