Christmas Stockings for Soldiers
Richard Harrington, Prospective Conservative MP has launched a campaign encouraging local residents to donate gift-filled stockings to give to troops currently serving in Afghanistan. This is part of a raft of campaigns Richard is supporting to honour and show thanks for British forces serving in Afghanistan.
Being away from home at Christmas can be especially difficult for young soldiers in combat. Sending gifts to those in our armed forces means that not only will they be receiving items that will bring them some festive cheer, it will also let them know that people back home are thinking about them.
People donating gifts have been asked to put the stocking of goodies (e.g. , t-shirts, books, bottles of condiments, packet soups, cereal bars, confectionery, socks, batteries) in a “shoe box” parcel and deposit it at the collection points around Watford ready be sent on to our troops in Afghanistan.
Richard said:
“I really hope that as many people as possible will get involved in this. Putting together a little box of goodies is a great way for showing appreciation for our troops out in Afghanistan. We don’t expect people to send lavish packages, just a few items that the soldiers will really appreciate.
“It will be a great way to keep their spirits up while they are away from their families this Christmas.”
The deadline to drop off packages is Friday November 27th to allow for delivery in time for Christmas.
