Democracy & Accountability

It is very important that democracy is open and accessible for all people. Politicians are far too often hidden from scrutiny from their constituents who are very rarely afforded a say on the issues relevant to them.
It has been a priority of mine to ensure that my constituents are able to question me openly on the decisions I make. I pledge to continue my public meetings if I am elected, giving people a platform to question me face to face on what I am doing for them in Parliament and explain any voting decisions I have made.
I will hold these meetings all around the constituency as it is important to take the meetings to people rather than expect them to come to me. As politicians, we need to be the ones making the effort to start the conversation with the public as confidence in the Westminster model is at an all-time low.
The public want their elected representatives to show that they are a real person who is prepared to take on board other people’s ideas and criticism – not just another politician with their head in the sand.
Declaration of Interests
In the interest of greater transparency and also to show people before they go to vote that I am dedicated to openess in politics, I have decided to publish my ‘Declaration of interests’ here. This isn’t a legal requirement or in any way compulsory but I wanted to show that I am serious about bringing more transparency and honesty to politics.
