Policing and crime in Watford

Richard Harrington on policing in Watford

Though Watford is a relatively safe area, crime levels and policing are still concerns for many residents. If people are not feeling safe and secure in their homes, there is definitely something wrong in society. Together, this is something that we must fix.

To help people feel safer we need a more visible police presence on the streets. All too often police spend large amounts of their time dealing with paperwork and bureaucracy and not enough time dealing with people. This is something that needs to change.

Cutting bureaucracy is something that will also help the police do there job. If elected to government we will also deliver plans that require all police forces to provide ‘crime maps’ and to hold ‘quarterly beat meetings’. With these policies in place, policing in Watford will be more visible and more effective.

More also needs to be done to tackle the problems of anti-social behaviour. People often have to face unruly and intimidating behaviour from small groups within our society and such behaviour needs to be curtailed. Conservative plans to increase the prices of super-strength alcohol will be a step in the right direction to tackling the problems created by underage drinking and related anti-social behaviour.
